Summary
- A hockey coach received a lifetime ban for abusing young players.
- Allegations included emotional and verbal abuse, and bullying.
- The ban prohibits all hockey activities involving minors.

A prominent hockey coach has been permanently banned from all coaching activities involving minors after a prolonged period of emotional abuse and bullying. Duncan Parnis, 41, formerly the head of hockey at Ipswich School, was investigated by England Hockey for serious safeguarding offences, stemming from reports by parents, ex-players, and coaches.
Allegations detailed emotional and verbal abuse, as well as bullying, particularly targeting young female athletes. These actions reportedly caused significant distress, leaving many young players feeling 'broken.' This marks the third investigation into Parnis for similar misconduct.
Following his suspension last June, a disciplinary panel found Parnis guilty of harming the safety and welfare of young people. The ban, confirmed by England Hockey, excludes him from all hockey-related activities within any club involving under-18s and from holding any official position within such clubs. Parnis, who denied the allegations, did not attend the final hearing.
Parnis had previously coached for two decades across England and was recognized as a Sports Coach UK Young Coach of the Year. Despite his success in developing hockey stars, concerns about his coaching methods persisted, even leading to claims that a club he established was run 'like a cult.'
