8 Oct
Summary
- Broadcaster revealed skin cancer diagnosis and Mohs surgery.
- Squamous cell carcinoma was removed from her nose.
- Part of her ear was grafted onto her nose for reconstruction.
Julie Stewart-Binks, a familiar face in hockey broadcasting, recently took a leave of absence to undergo surgery for skin cancer. The 39-year-old shared on social media that she was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, which required Mohs surgery to remove from her nose. Stewart-Binks initially believed a mark on her nose was merely a stubborn pimple.
She underwent a unique reconstructive procedure, where a portion of her ear was grafted onto her nose. Stewart-Binks described this process with a sense of resilience, humorously comparing her current state to that of a hockey player ready to return to the game. She aims to inspire others to seek medical attention if they notice any unusual changes in their skin.
This personal health disclosure comes after Stewart-Binks filed a lawsuit in January 2025. She alleged sexual assault by a Fox executive in 2016. The executive was later terminated by the network.
