Hillsdale Academy Dominates MITCA Track & Field Sweep

Hillsdale Academy celebrated a momentous achievement on a chilly, rainy Saturday, securing the MITCA Division 4 Team State Championship title for both its girls' and boys' track and field teams. This marks the girls' fourth consecutive state championship win, while the boys' team claimed their first title since 2021. The program's last sweep of both titles occurred in 2021, underscoring their sustained dominance.

The successful event was hosted at Hillsdale Academy's own Hayden Park, creating a special hometown atmosphere for the athletes and supporters. Coach Mike Roberts expressed immense pride in his team's effort under challenging conditions, emphasizing the mental toughness required for such a prestigious meet. The boys' team, accumulating 1,616 points, narrowly edged out Manchester and Royal Oak Shrine, while the girls' team secured their win with 1,383.5 points over Kalamazoo Hackett.

Individual standout performances contributed to the sweep. Senior Dawson Scharer led the boys by winning four events, including the 100 meters and various hurdles. For the girls, freshman Juliet King and the 3,200 relay team achieved first-place finishes, with crucial wins in the 1,600 relay sealing their championship. The team's success is a testament to year-round preparation and a strong community effort.

Hillsdale also competed in the MITCA Division 3 Team State Championship, with the boys' team finishing fourth overall. Looking ahead, athletes are preparing for the MHSAA state finals later in May, with different divisions competing at separate locations.
