Summary
- Hilary Knight played through a torn MCL to win Olympic gold.
- She set new U.S. Olympic records for points and goals.
- Knight is considering competing in another Olympics.

Hilary Knight's pivotal role in the U.S. women's national hockey team's recent Olympic gold medal victory was achieved while battling a significant injury. She revealed on Monday that she played through a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
Knight described the experience as a "mental sort of gymnastic challenge," crediting the support staff for enabling her to perform. She appeared in all seven games, scoring a crucial equalizer in the gold medal match against Canada and ultimately setting new U.S. Olympic records for career points (33) and goals (15).
Her injury occurred during a game against Finland on February 7th, where she sustained the MCL tear after a collision. Despite leaving the ice temporarily, she returned to score, contributing to the team's undefeated run and their first gold medal since 2018.
Although Knight had previously indicated that these would be her final Olympics, she expressed that she is "certainly capable" of competing again, leaving the door open for future participation.
