- His return creates a roster challenge due to Casey Schmitt's performance.
San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos is nearing a return to the team, bringing welcome news after a period of significant injury setbacks. Ramos has been sidelined since mid-May but is expected to rejoin the Giants soon, potentially this weekend.
He began a rehab assignment with AAA Sacramento on June 17, participating in five games and demonstrating progress. Ramos's return, however, introduces a complex roster situation for the Giants. During his absence, Casey Schmitt has excelled in left field, becoming an everyday player and a leading hitter for the team.
The Giants are contemplating various roster configurations to accommodate Ramos, including shifting defensive positions. One possibility involves playing Ramos in right field, potentially allowing Jung Hoo Lee to move back to center field. This move would optimize offense but presents defensive challenges.
Alternative solutions depend on other player situations, such as the duration of Luis Arráez's injury. The team will continue to assess options as Ramos's return date solidifies, aiming to balance their lineup and defense effectively.
