Heads Up Eyes Festival Trials Day Return
11 Jan
Summary
- Heads Up is targeting Festival Trials day on January 24th.
- The horse's recent form is strong despite a brief pause.
- Trainer is optimistic about potential Festival targets.

John McConnell's charge, Heads Up, is being readied for a significant return to Prestbury Park. The horse is scheduled to compete on Festival Trials day, scheduled for January 24th, aiming for the Grade Two Classic Novices' Hurdle over two and a half miles. This appearance follows a commendable performance in November, where Heads Up finished behind the highly-rated No Drama This End, whose subsequent victories highlight the quality of that previous race.
The five-year-old had a successful start to his hurdling career in September and was a favourite for a Grade Two event. A minor issue with his blood count caused him to miss engagements over the Christmas period and a potential run at Naas. However, with his health now restored, trainer John McConnell is confident about his prospects.
McConnell indicated that Heads Up's performance on January 24th will significantly inform decisions regarding potential targets at the Cheltenham Festival itself. While races like the Turners and Supreme Novices' Hurdle are being considered, the immediate focus remains on this upcoming Grade Two contest.
