Harry Burrows: Stoke's 'Cannonball Shot' Hero Passes Away

Stoke City Football Club is in mourning following the passing of its former forward, Harry Burrows, at the age of 85. Burrows joined the Potters from Aston Villa in March 1965 for a fee of £27,000. During his eight-year tenure with Stoke, he made a significant impact, netting 79 goals in 281 appearances. This impressive tally places him 13th on the club's all-time top scorers list. He was an integral part of the squad that reached consecutive FA Cup semi-finals in 1971 and 1972. Although he missed the 1972 League Cup final victory due to injury, his presence was deeply felt. Burrows later moved to Plymouth in 1973, where he scored three goals in 19 appearances. Former teammate Terry Conroy fondly recalled Burrows as a terrific footballer with a 'cannonball shot,' once the hardest in the game, and a universally liked individual.
