Harbhajan: Sundar Needs More Wickets to Shine

Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian cricketer, has stated that Washington Sundar must increase his bowling workload in matches to become a reliable, wicket-taking spin option. Singh suggested that Sundar's bowling abilities could be overshadowed if he does not consistently deliver more than 30 overs per match, potentially limiting him to an all-rounder role.

Singh's comments came after India's performance in the recent Test series against South Africa, where the team was outplayed. He observed a distinct lack of a specialist right-arm off-spinner within the Indian Test squad. This absence was particularly noticeable given the performance of South African spinners.

The Indian spin attack struggled considerably in their second home series since Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement. Across the two Tests against South Africa, the visiting spinners took 25 wickets, significantly outperforming India's bowlers and underscoring the need for more potent spin options.
