The Gunter Tigers are making a strong push for their fourth consecutive state championship appearance, currently standing just two wins away from returning to Arlington's AT&T Stadium. This impressive run comes after a season where the team was expected to be in rebuilding mode, with only two offensive and five defensive starters returning, alongside a new head coach.
Despite these challenges, Gunter has reloaded exceptionally well, boasting a 12-1 record with their sole loss against the defending 4A DI state champions. Their playoff performance has been dominant, outscoring opponents 173-27 in the postseason, including an 84-point performance in the bi-district round.
Now, Gunter prepares to face familiar district rival Leonard in the UIL 3A Division II Region II championship game. The winner will advance to the semifinal round, continuing their quest for championship glory.
