The Cleveland Guardians have advanced to the American League Championship Series following a decisive 2-0 victory over the White Sox in Game 5 of their AL Division Series. Pitcher Gavin Williams was the star of the game, tying a postseason club record with 12 strikeouts through 5 2/3 innings. His performance, coupled with a crucial two-run home run from Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning, secured the win for Cleveland.
This victory marks a historic comeback for the Guardians, as they become only the 11th team in postseason history to win a best-of-five series after losing the first two games. Ramirez's resurgence after returning from a hand injury in late July was pivotal throughout the series, especially in the elimination games.
The Guardians will now face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS, with Game 1 scheduled for Monday night at Tropicana Field. This marks Cleveland's first trip to the ALCS since 2016, with a potential World Series appearance within reach.
