Summary
- Teen sprinter Gout Gout broke national and world age-group records.
- His unique physique and mid-race speed are key to his success.
- Coach Di Sheppard has guided Gout since he was discovered.

Australian sprinter Gout Gout, now 18, has rapidly ascended to global prominence, breaking national and world age-group records. His journey began six years ago when track coach Di Sheppard noticed his raw talent at Ipswich Grammar School. Sheppard, who has no prior track background, has been Gout's sole coach, fostering a unique and effective partnership despite their different backgrounds.
Gout's remarkable speed is attributed to his exceptional mid-race endurance and ability to utilize the explosive energy stored in his Achilles tendons, allowing him to use fewer steps than competitors. While he excels at sustained top speed, his physique is more suited for longer distances, prompting his coach to focus on his development without risking burnout.
In December 2024, at 16, Gout set the fastest 200-meter time in Australian history, surpassing a 1968 Olympic record and breaking Usain Bolt's world age-group record. More recently, at 17, he achieved the fastest 200m time for a teenager globally, with a 19.67-second performance in Sydney. Gout recently graduated high school with top grades and is training for future Olympic Games in Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032).
