Gophers football practices are amplifying their soundtrack by incorporating rival fight songs. Coach P.J. Fleck is having his team's music selection include "On, Wisconsin" and the "Iowa Fight Song" during drills focused on trophy games. This year, "The Victors" for Michigan and "Fight On, State" for Penn State have been added to the rotation.
For the second time in Coach Fleck's ten-year tenure, Minnesota will face all four of its trophy rivals within the same season. The challenging series kicks off this Saturday at 11 a.m. against No. 24 Michigan for the Little Brown Jug, marking the 100th meeting between the teams.
Following the Michigan matchup, the Gophers will compete for Floyd of Rosedale against Iowa on October 24th. Later, on November 14th, they will play for the Governor's Victory Bell at Penn State, and the season concludes on November 27th at Wisconsin for Paul Bunyan's Axe.
Michigan has historically dominated the series for the Little Brown Jug, holding a 73-23-3 record against the Gophers. Coach Fleck acknowledged the significance of facing a strong rival, stating, "We get a chance to find a way to be 1-0 against a really good football team that is a big rival of ours." He is currently 0-4 against the Wolverines.
