Goole Amateur Boxing Club (GABC) has launched a fundraising campaign with the ambitious goal of securing £225,000. The funds are earmarked for the purchase of their current building on Boothferry Road and an adjacent property. This expansion is seen as vital to accommodate the increasing interest in their programs and to improve overall accessibility for the local community.
Established in 2021, GABC currently serves more than 225 members, ranging from eight-year-olds to individuals over 60. The club is notable for offering specialized boxing classes for people living with Parkinson's Disease. Chair of trustees Andrew Horncastle MBE highlighted the club's mission to foster personal development, stating, "GABC does not just aim to create champions in the ring, but champions in life."
Securing a permanent home is a key objective for the club. Horncastle described the opportunity to acquire both buildings as exactly what is needed but acknowledged the significant financial commitment involved. Local farmer Richard Longthorp, a member who has Parkinson's, praised the club's inclusive approach, emphasizing its benefits for fitness and well-being across all ages. He noted a growing waiting list, underscoring the urgency of the expansion to prevent potential members from missing out.
