In an unusual shift from its typical holiday image, Goa hosted a round of the Indian Racing Festival (IRF) on a temporary street circuit. The 12-turn, 2.064-kilometer track was set up near the Manohar International Airport, featuring Formula 4 cars. This event marked the series' second street race, following an earlier one in Chennai, and was noted for its improved organization. The race venue included grandstands and paddock areas, with locals showing significant interest, especially when the home team, Goa Aces JA Racing, performed well.
Local support surged as Goa Aces JA Racing, with drivers Raoul Hyman and Fabienne Wohlwend, secured victories. Hyman won Race 1, and the team triumphed in the feature relay race. While the red soil presented dusty conditions and occasional lock-ups, the event's primary challenge was a dry-grass fire near the track. Fire crews responded swiftly, controlling the situation without significant disruption.
Sourav Ganguly, an IRL team owner, emphasized the complexity of organizing such an event in a public space, contrasting it with cricket in dedicated stadiums. He also highlighted the need for patience and support for motorsport in India, a relatively young sport. These street races aim to boost the visibility of Indian motorsport by bringing competition to public areas, demonstrating the series' ability to adapt and function in new locations.
