Summary
- Devers undergoes MRI, takes anti-inflammatory medication
- Devers not ready to play field, limited to DH role
- Giants acquired Devers last month to boost their offense

In a recent development, the San Francisco Giants are dealing with an injury concern surrounding their star player, Rafael Devers. According to the team's manager, Bob Melvin, Devers has begun taking anti-inflammatory medication to address the irritation symptoms he has been experiencing.
Devers, who was acquired by the Giants from the Boston Red Sox last month, underwent an MRI exam on Thursday to determine the extent of the issue. Melvin expressed optimism that Devers may not require a stint on the injured list, given the upcoming All-Star break.
"He went on some medication, feels a little bit better today. We'll see how he responds to that," Melvin said. "I'm glad we got the MRI done so we know what's going on."
Since joining the Giants, Devers has been limited to the designated hitter role, as he is not yet ready to play the field, including first base, where he has been doing regular fielding work. Melvin noted that Devers feels the issue mostly when running, though it also affects him at the plate to a lesser degree.
The Giants acquired Devers, a three-time All-Star, in a move to bolster their offense after the slugger made it known he did not want to play first base for the Red Sox. Devers signed a $313.5 million, 10-year contract with Boston earlier this year.
As the Giants push for a playoff spot, they will be hoping Devers can recover and contribute fully to their lineup in the coming weeks.
