- Quarterback Alberto Mendoza's intelligence and command are key to the new offense.
- Tae Harris is expected to be a breakout playmaker in the secondary.
Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key provided insights into the team's preparations and player evaluations. He described the transfer portal process as a challenging, fast-paced evaluation, requiring thorough vetting of candidates, especially for the quarterback position.
Key emphasized the intelligence and command of transfer quarterback Alberto Mendoza, stating he is well-equipped to handle the demands of offensive coordinator George Godsey's system. Despite Mendoza's lack of college game experience, Key believes his grasp of the offense will be crucial.
The Yellow Jackets' leadership has also focused on developing key players, with cornerback Tae Harris singled out for an anticipated breakout season. Key praised Harris's leadership, explosiveness, and improved communication skills, expecting him to be a significant playmaker.
Looking ahead, Key previewed the upcoming game against Colorado, acknowledging it will be a tough contest with both teams featuring new coordinators. Preparation will focus on fundamental offense, defense, and special teams, with a cautious approach to introducing complex schemes early in the season.
