In a troubling turn of events, Chace Calicut, a four-star recruit for the Georgia Bulldogs football team, has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident occurred on July 6 in Houston, Texas.
According to reports, Calicut and another 17-year-old, Isaiah Brice Phillip, were involved in a violent road rage incident with two other teens. The victims claimed that Calicut's vehicle kept pulling alongside their car, and they saw Phillip aiming a handgun at them. The victims were able to escape, but they heard gunshots shortly afterward.
Calicut has since been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Harris County Jail. A judge has set his bond at $20,000. Tragically, Phillip was later killed in a separate shooting incident just over two weeks after the initial incident.
Chace Calicut is a highly-touted prospect, ranked as the No. 17 cornerback in the 2026 class and the No. 21 recruit in Texas. He had recently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, citing the program's reputation for developing defensive backs. The university has not yet commented on the situation.
