Erica Hill, the owner of Sparrow Funeral Home, felt inspired by Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns' emotional reflections on his mother's legacy following a recent win. She recognized sports as a potential grief ritual, providing a space for fans to connect with their own personal losses while cheering for the team. The event facilitated a shared experience of remembrance, with attendees writing names of lost loved ones on a guest page and sharing memories.

During halftime, the names of approximately two dozen individuals lost by attendees were read aloud.
