Florida State Rolls with Transfer QB for Third Straight Year
10 Jun
Summary
- Ashton Daniels, an Auburn transfer, named FSU's starting QB.
- Florida State continues its trend of starting transfer quarterbacks.
- Kevin Sperry and Malachi Marshall also compete for QB snaps.

Florida State is set to start the 2026 season with transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels under center, marking the third consecutive year the Seminoles have relied on a transfer for their Week 1 starter. Daniels, a redshirt senior from Auburn, secured the starting role over redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry following spring camp.
Daniels' previous experience includes three starts for Auburn, where he showed flashes of potential but also struggled with turnovers and deep throws. His past performance includes 442 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in a loss to Vanderbilt. Despite a 0-3 record in his starts for Auburn, his consistency during spring practice impressed head coach Mike Norvell.
While Daniels is QB1, redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry and summer enrollee Malachi Marshall are also in the mix for playing time. Marshall, a highly touted JUCO transfer, missed spring camp but possesses significant talent. Freshman Jaden O'Neal, a top recruit, is sidelined for the season due to an ACL injury sustained during his senior year of high school.
