Freshman Quarterback Dante Moore Wins Starting Job at Oregon
30 Aug
Summary
- Dante Moore, a former top-5 recruit, will start at QB for Oregon
- Moore transferred from UCLA after struggling as a freshman in 2023
- Oregon is coming off a 13-1 season and Big Ten title in 2024

As of August 30th, 2025, Dante Moore has been named the starting quarterback for the Oregon Ducks. The former top-5 overall recruit transferred to Oregon last year after a difficult freshman campaign at UCLA in 2023, where he started 5 games and played in 9 overall.
Moore's arrival at Oregon comes as the Ducks look to build on their highly successful 2024 season. Under quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Oregon went undefeated in the regular season, won the Big Ten championship, and earned the #1 seed in the inaugural 12-team college football playoff. However, the Ducks' season ended with a quarterfinal loss to Ohio State.
With Gabriel's eligibility exhausted, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning knew he would need a new starting quarterback. Moore competed with redshirt sophomore Austin Novosad for the job throughout the offseason, and Lanning has ultimately decided to go with the more experienced and highly touted Moore as his QB1 for the 2025 campaign.
The Ducks are ranked 7th in the nation to start the 2025 season and have high expectations after their conference title a year ago. They open the season today against FCS opponent Montana State, followed by a home game against Oklahoma State next week before diving into Big Ten play.
