Derby Dreams: Hankelow Eyeing French Classic Glory
30 May
Summary
- Hankelow aims for Classic success after a strong French 2000 Guineas performance.
- Trainer Karl Burke is hopeful Hankelow's stamina will suit the mile-and-a-quarter distance.
- Aidan O'Brien's favourite Constitution River faces a challenging wide draw in stall 15.

Trainer Karl Burke is optimistic about Hankelow's prospects in Sunday's Qatar Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly. Hankelow impressed in the French 2000 Guineas three weeks prior, finishing third after leading for much of the race. Burke is confident in Hankelow's current form and anticipates he will be fitter for his upcoming challenge.
While Hankelow possesses a favorable draw in stall one, Burke acknowledges the need for his charge to prove stamina over the mile-and-a-quarter distance, though he notes the dam's side of the pedigree suggests this capability. He also expressed a preference for easier ground, should rain materialize.
Aidan O'Brien's top contender, Constitution River, has been assigned a difficult draw in stall 15 out of 16. Despite this, Burke considers Constitution River a very good horse and doesn't rule out a victory for him.
O'Brien has three runners, including Hawk Mountain and Montreal. Hawk Mountain, a Group Three winner, will be fitted with a visor, while Montreal has shown good progress. The home team's challenge is led by Daryzan, a half-brother to Arc winner Daryz, who won impressively on his debut.
