Tiafoe Powers Past Qualifier at US Open

Frances Tiafoe, a prominent American contender, advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open on Wednesday with a commanding straight-sets victory over Japanese qualifier Rei Sakamoto. Tiafoe's performance kept alive the hopes of a home men's champion, a title the U.S. has not claimed in 23 years.

Playing before a spirited partisan crowd at Louis Armstrong Stadium, the world number 12 secured the win despite a second-set wobble. Sakamoto, who notably defeated his idol Kei Nishikori to reach the main draw, struggled with unforced errors despite hitting 18 aces.
