Former India Star Slams Harshit Rana's Surprise Asia Cup Selection
20 Aug
Summary
- Harshit Rana's ordinary IPL 2025 performances questioned
- Aakash Chopra suggests Prasidh Krishna or Mohammed Siraj could be better options
- Rana may only get to play if Jasprit Bumrah is rested

As the 2025 Asia Cup approaches, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has raised questions about the selection of Harshit Rana in the Indian squad for the tournament. The 2025 Asia Cup is scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28, and Rana is one of the three specialist seamers picked in India's 15-member squad, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
Chopra, in a video on his YouTube channel, pointed out that Rana's performances in the recently concluded IPL 2025 were "extremely ordinary." The right-arm seamer picked up 15 wickets at an average of 29.86 in 13 innings, while conceding an average of 10.18 runs per over. Chopra believes Rana's numbers are not strong enough to warrant a place in the national team.
The former India opener acknowledged that Rana might only get to play if Bumrah is given a break, but he feels that either Prasidh Krishna or Mohammed Siraj could have been better options as the third seamer. Prasidh Krishna was the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2025 with 25 scalps at an economy rate of 8.27, while Siraj accounted for 16 dismissals at an economy of 9.24.
