Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct. This ruling means the 27-year-old will be unavailable for the FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City at Wembley. His suspension also extends to Southampton's final two Championship fixtures against Ipswich Town and Preston North End.
The Football Association (FA) confirmed the ban after reviewing video footage of an incident during their recent match against Swansea City. Although not observed by the on-field officials, Downes' actions were deemed violent conduct. He has admitted the charge and accepted the standard three-game penalty.
Downes' absence will be felt in the crucial upcoming fixtures. However, he will be eligible to play for Southampton should they reach the FA Cup final or participate in the Championship play-offs. The midfielder joined Southampton permanently in the summer of 2024 after a loan spell from West Ham.
