Philly Flyers Call Up Defenseman for NHL Debut
10 Dec
Summary
- Ty Murchison makes his NHL debut tonight for the Flyers.
- He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
- Over 20 friends and family members will attend his debut.

Defenseman Ty Murchison is set to make his National Hockey League debut with the Philadelphia Flyers tonight against the San Jose Sharks. This call-up comes as a result of an upper-body injury sustained by fellow defenseman Cam York, who is currently day-to-day. Murchison, originally drafted by the Flyers in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft, played college hockey at Arizona State University.
Murchison, who will be playing in front of a large contingent of friends and family, learned of his debut from head coach Rick Tocchet. He will be paired with veteran defenseman Noah Juulsen on the third defensive pairing. This marks another instance of a player being promoted from the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms to the Flyers.
The 22-year-old defenseman, a native of Corona, California, also shared his excitement about facing a team from his home state. Growing up as an Anaheim Ducks fan, he anticipates a spirited matchup against the San Jose Sharks. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
