Matt Lawlor, a native of Fleetwood, has officially been appointed as the club's permanent head coach. His new contract extends through the 2027-28 season. Lawlor, who has been with the club for nine years, initially took on the caretaker role in January after Pete Wild's departure.
Under Lawlor's guidance, Fleetwood Town has seen a significant turnaround in form, achieving an impressive eight-game unbeaten streak in League Two. This has placed them eight points adrift of the play-off positions. Lawlor, who previously served as youth coach and head of coaching and player development, stated his ambition to create a team that local supporters can take pride in.
He also voiced his desire to make Highbury Stadium a challenging venue for visiting teams, ensuring Fleetwood becomes a team that opponents do not look forward to facing. Lawlor has prior caretaker experience with League of Ireland Premier Division side Waterford.
