Flames Acquire Nemec in Blockbuster Trade

The New Jersey Devils announced Tuesday they have traded restricted free agent defenseman Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames. Forward Maxim Tsyplakov was also included in the trade. The Devils received a significant haul of future draft assets in exchange for the pair. Calgary will send first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028 to New Jersey, which are both top-10 protected. Additionally, the Devils acquired a 2026 second-round selection. Defenseman prospect Etienne Morin also makes his way to New Jersey as part of the deal.
Nemec, who was selected second overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, recorded 49 points since making his NHL debut in 2023. Tsyplakov, a veteran forward, contributed 39 career points in 126 games. Morin, a second-round pick by the Flames in 2023, spent the 2025-26 season in the American Hockey League.
