Fever's Point Guard Woes Deepen as Injuries Mount

On August 8, 2025, the Indiana Fever faced a deepening crisis in their backcourt as two of their point guards suffered injuries during their 95-60 loss to the Phoenix Mercury. Aari McDonald, who finished the game with 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists, left the court limping in the fourth quarter and had to be helped to the locker room by a trainer.

Fever coach Steph White did not provide specifics on the severity of McDonald's right foot injury, stating that the team would evaluate her condition further once they returned to Indianapolis. This latest setback comes as the Fever were already without their starting point guard, Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined since July 15 with a right groin injury.

To make matters worse, the Fever's backup point guard, Sydney Colson, also went down with a non-contact left knee injury in the first quarter of the game. White did not have an update on Colson's status either, but the player had to be helped off the court and could not put any weight on her left leg.

With both McDonald and Colson potentially out for an extended period, the Fever will be forced to rely on Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham to handle point guard duties, despite them playing out of position.
