Despite Atlanta United's difficult season, striker Breel Embolo presents a formidable challenge for Toronto FC's defense. Embolo has been in impressive scoring form, netting four goals in his first 10 MLS matches. Toronto FC coach Robin Fraser has identified Embolo as the primary danger, stressing that his team must work collectively to contain the Swiss international.
Embolo's arrival at Atlanta United was a significant investment, costing nearly $18 million. After a brief slump following his MLS debut, he has regained his scoring touch, including a late equalizer in Atlanta's recent match against New York City FC. Toronto defender Richie Laryea, who recently faced Embolo internationally, described him as a "complete striker" and a "presence up there."
Toronto FC's defensive strategy must focus on limiting Embolo's opportunities, acknowledging that Atlanta also possesses other dangerous attackers like Miguel Almiron and Aleksei Miranchuk. Atlanta's coach, Tata Martino, has urged his team to adapt to the strengths of their opponents, regardless of the venue.
