The 2026/27 Sky Bet EFL season officially commences on Friday, August 14th, with relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers facing Blackburn Rovers at Molineux. This opening fixture, broadcast live on Sky Sports Football, signals a new era for broadcast coverage.
For the upcoming season, Sky Sports will broadcast every fixture across the Championship, League One, and League Two live. This comprehensive coverage is part of a record five-year domestic broadcast agreement valued at £935 million, marking the third season under this deal.
The EFL has also confirmed that over 1,000 matches throughout the season, including league games, the Carabao Cup, and the EFL Trophy, will be shown live. Each EFL club is guaranteed a minimum of 20 live televised appearances, enhancing fan access to their teams.
Beyond the opening weekend's glamour, the schedule includes a notable all-Welsh derby between Wrexham and Cardiff City, and a Premier League relegation playoff between Burnley and West Ham United. League One newcomers Leicester City will start their campaign against Notts County, while League Two sees York City return to the EFL against Bristol Rovers.
The Championship season will conclude on May 1st, 2027, with League One and League Two finishing a week later on May 8th. An adjustment to the early season schedule will accommodate Carabao Cup ties, splitting Round Six fixtures across two midweek dates in September.
Supporters will benefit from early notification of television selections. Matches up to the end of September will be confirmed by July 2nd, with all televised games through to January announced by July 31st. The fixture release also precedes the draws for the Carabao Cup first round and EFL Trophy group stage, both scheduled for today.
