Mexico's national football team captain, Edson Alvarez, has strongly refuted claims linking him to a supposed kidnapping plot. A filmmaker, Juan Jose Lopez Ordonez, accused the West Ham United midfielder of conspiring in a November 2024 kidnapping, during which Ordonez alleges he was threatened and assaulted.
Ordonez also claims Alvarez owes him 3.5 million pesos ($206,000), stemming from work on a documentary and a separate property dispute with Alvarez's family. Alvarez, however, issued a firm denial via Instagram, stating he "categorically rejects" any association with the allegations and has instructed his legal team to pursue action against those making "false allegations."
The footballer emphasized that serious accusations require evidence presented to authorities, not media outlets prioritizing sensationalism. Alvarez asserted he would not permit his name to be used for third-party conflicts or media attention, making it clear he has no connection to the reported incidents.
