Ecuador Stuns Germany, Advances to Knockout Stage!

Ecuador has achieved a remarkable comeback victory against Germany, winning 2-1 to advance to the World Cup knockout stages. Gonzalo Plata scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, securing Ecuador's place as one of the best third-placed teams. This marks only the second time in their history that Ecuador has progressed beyond the group stage, the previous instance occurring two decades ago.

Germany, having already secured first place in Group E, sought to extend their winning streak and personal milestones. However, Ecuador responded swiftly to an early German lead. After conceding within two minutes, Nilson Angulo equalized in the ninth minute, ending a long goal drought for Ecuador. The match saw several opportunities for both sides, with VAR overturning a potential penalty for Germany in the second half.

Substitute Kevin Rodriguez played a pivotal role, flicking on a corner that led to Plata's winning goal. Despite Germany's late pressure, Ecuador held firm to secure the win. The result, combined with Ivory Coast's victory over Curacao, reshaped Group E and sent Ecuador into the next round with renewed confidence, likely facing England.
