Echeverri's Leverkusen Loan Cut Short Amidst Playing Time Woes
19 Dec
Summary
- Claudio Echeverri's loan at Bayer Leverkusen is ending prematurely.
- The young midfielder has struggled for consistent first-team minutes.
- Manchester City sought more game time for the Argentine youth international.

Manchester City midfielder Claudio Echeverri's loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen will conclude earlier than planned. The German club confirmed the decision, citing a lack of consistent first-team opportunities for the young Argentine.
Since his arrival in August, Echeverri has featured in only three starts for Leverkusen. Manchester City had arranged the loan with the expectation that the 19-year-old would secure substantial playing time, a goal that has not been met.
Leverkusen's head coach acknowledged Echeverri's potential and positive attitude but explained that the team's deep midfield roster made it challenging to guarantee more minutes. Echeverri previously joined City in January 2024 from River Plate for approximately £12.5 million plus add-ons and had brief senior appearances for City in the FA Cup and Club World Cup before his loan.
