East Zone secured their place in the Duleep Trophy final after defeating defending champions Central Zone by four wickets on Tuesday. The victory was significantly bolstered by a brilliant 40-run cameo from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who efficiently chased down a target of 159 on a challenging, turning pitch.
Contributing 40 runs off just 43 deliveries, Sooryavanshi's aggressive innings, including powerful shots against the pacers, proved vital. His performance, alongside steady bowling from Mohammed Shami (3/56) and Mukesh Kumar (4/44), guided East Zone to victory. Mukesh's seven-wicket haul in the match earned him Player of the Match.
Central Zone, resuming their second innings at 45 for three, experienced a dramatic collapse, losing their remaining seven wickets for 158 runs. Despite a late partnership from Dubey and Arshad Khan, East Zone's bowlers held their nerve.
East Zone, champions in the 2012-13 season, will now compete in the final at Chepauk from September 6, facing the winner of the other semifinal between South Zone and North Zone.
