Summary
- Jack Riewoldt suggests Lachie Neale as Harley Reid's mentor.
- West Coast lost by 128 points to Sydney.
- Neale's contract at Brisbane ends this season.
The West Coast Eagles are exploring options to support their highly touted recruit, Harley Reid, particularly after a significant 128-point defeat against the Sydney Swans. During the match, Reid was heavily targeted by the Swans' James Jordon, highlighting a perceived lack of assistance from his teammates.
Commentator Jack Riewoldt has proposed that Brisbane Lions midfielder Lachie Neale could be the perfect mentor for Reid. Neale, who is out of contract at the end of the current season, has personal connections to Western Australia. Riewoldt believes Neale's experience could help guide Reid in training and managing the intense media scrutiny.
Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has previously indicated openness to Neale returning to Western Australia if it aligns with his personal needs. Neale himself has been non-committal about his future beyond the current season, stating his commitment to Brisbane for the upcoming season while acknowledging personal considerations.
Nathan Buckley, another commentator, suggested that Reid's current challenges are part of a learning process for both the player and the team. He emphasized that as the team improves, Reid's individual performance is also likely to benefit.
