Cleary: Test snub lit a fire under Edwards

Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary stated that Dylan Edwards' stellar performance, including two tries in their 40-4 demolition of the Sydney Roosters, was fueled by the heartbreak of losing his Test fullback jersey. Edwards was outstanding, outpointing James Tedesco and running for 131 metres.

Cleary believes a combination of a healthy pre-season and the motivation from his Test snub has ignited Edwards' current form. He noted that Edwards, like many teammates, benefited from a robust preparation after dealing with minor injuries last season.

The Panthers' entire spine, including Nathan Cleary and Blaize Talagi, is significantly healthier this season compared to last. This improved physical condition and established combinations are seen as key to their pursuit of a fifth premiership in six years.

Despite the convincing victory, Ivan Cleary pointed out areas for improvement, particularly conceding an early try. However, he praised the team's ability to navigate difficult situations during the match and finish strongly, highlighting their solid defensive efforts and an 88% completion rate.
