Double Amputee Conquers Seven Summits

Hari Budha Magar, a former Gurkha veteran and double above-the-knee amputee, has successfully completed a lifelong ambition by summiting the highest peak on each of the seven continents. His final ascent was Mount Vinson in Antarctica, reaching the summit on Tuesday. Magar lost both his legs in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan with the British Army, an event that initially led to a period of struggle and loss of self-worth.

Despite the profound physical and mental challenges, Magar found a new purpose rooted in his boyhood dream of mountaineering. His seven-peak challenge began in August 2019 with Mont Blanc and included iconic mountains like Kilimanjaro, Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, and Puncak Jaya, culminating with Mount Vinson this week.

Now an MBE and Pride of Britain award winner, Magar has raised over £30,000 for veterans' charities. He expresses gratitude for the support and innovative prosthetics that enabled his climbs, stating he would decline having his legs back if offered. His ongoing mission is to inspire and empower others, dedicating his life to raising awareness for disability issues.
