This situation places Doncic in jeopardy of an automatic one-game suspension due to accumulating technical fouls. Following the game, Doncic explained the severity of the comments, claiming they were directed at his family and were made in Serbian to evade suspicion. He expressed regret for letting his team down but felt compelled to defend himself.

Bitadze, however, disputed Doncic's account. He stated he respects all families and would never threaten one directly, suggesting Doncic initiated inappropriate remarks about his mother. Bitadze claimed he merely responded in kind, asserting his comments were not directed at Doncic's family. He apologized if the exchange crossed a line, but maintained that Doncic's claims were untruthful.

In response to the potential suspension, the Lakers have lodged an appeal to waive Doncic's penalty. They argue that Bitadze's comments warranted a stronger sanction.
