Dolphins Pursue Top Free Agent CB Rasul Douglas, Negotiations Ongoing
26 Jul
Summary
- Dolphins remain interested in signing free agent CB Rasul Douglas
- Douglas has yet to decide on his 2023 team, with multiple teams pursuing him
- Dolphins recently signed CB Cornell Armstrong after tryouts, but still seek a starter

The Miami Dolphins remain engaged in negotiations with free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas, but the competition for his services has intensified in recent days. According to reports, Douglas has yet to decide where he will play his ninth NFL season, and he "didn't move" on a contract offer from the Dolphins on Thursday.
In the meantime, the Dolphins have signed cornerback Cornell Armstrong after he and three other players tried out for the team. However, Miami is still actively searching for a starting-caliber cornerback to line up alongside Kader Kohou, their top corner under contract.
Douglas, a 2017 third-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, started 15 games for the Buffalo Bills last season, recording 58 tackles, five pass breakups, and a forced fumble. The Dolphins have been linked to Douglas throughout the offseason, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on contract terms.
Head coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged that the team is "not closing the door on anything" when it comes to adding players at the cornerback position. With Artie Burns suffering a torn ACL early in training camp, the Dolphins' depth at the position has taken an early hit.
The Dolphins' unique salary cap situation, which includes $36 million in dead money tied to Xavien Howard, Jalen Ramsey, and Kendall Fuller, may be contributing to their hesitation to increase their offer to Douglas. The team may be willing to give its younger cornerbacks more time to develop before making a significant free-agent addition.
