- Tigers' openness to trade discussions stems from Skubal's impending free agency.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in serious discussions to acquire pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers. This move is seen as a significant step towards securing a third consecutive World Series title for the Dodgers, who have already made notable acquisitions in the offseason.
Skubal has emerged as one of baseball's top pitchers, demonstrating remarkable consistency with an earned run average below 2.80 for the past three seasons. His control was evident in 2025, where he recorded 241 strikeouts against only 33 walks, making him an attractive addition to any team's rotation.
The Tigers' president of baseball operations has indicated that no player is considered "untouchable," fueling speculation about Skubal's departure. Detroit faces the challenge of Skubal's impending free agency after the 2026 season, making a trade a strategic consideration to maximize his value.
