Dodgers Buy Big: Skubal Trade Shakes MLB

The Dodgers' already formidable pitching staff now includes Skubal, adding to their collection of top-tier arms.

Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi noted the Dodgers' aggressive strategy, reminiscent of the Yankees' "evil empire" era. He speculated that their current spending spree might be driven by anticipation of potential salary cap rules in the next collective bargaining agreement.

Girardi suggested that while the Dodgers might have acquired Skubal to cover potential health concerns with pitchers like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, the Yankees’ greatest needs lie elsewhere. He specifically pointed to strengthening the bullpen and adding offensive power.

Girardi identified Mason Miller, the Padres' dominant closer, as the ideal acquisition for the Yankees. He argued that Miller's impact, particularly in a playoff series, would be greater than Skubal's. The Yankees have reportedly shown interest in Miller, as well as a catcher and an outfielder to address offensive struggles and potential injuries to key players like Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.
