Novak Djokovic demonstrated his tenacity at the China Open on Friday, rallying to defeat Bu Yunchaokete in a hard-fought match. The encounter required a medical timeout for Djokovic, seemingly for rib pain similar to an earlier instance in the tournament.
Despite the mid-match interruption, Djokovic displayed remarkable fortitude. He went on to win the second-set tiebreaker decisively and then broke Bu's serve twice to establish a commanding 4-0 lead in the final set. The sixth-ranked player ultimately sealed the victory on his second match point, extending his unbeaten streak at the Beijing tournament to 31 matches and six titles.
Other notable results from the day included Daniil Medvedev's comfortable first-round win and advancements by Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka in the women's singles. Djokovic is set to face either Alexander Zverev or Juncheng Shang in the quarterfinals.
