Five-Star QB DJ Lagway: Baylor's Next Big Star?
21 Jul
Summary
- Lagway was a five-star recruit who struggled with turnovers at Florida.
- Baylor's offense under Jake Spavital suits Lagway's dual-threat abilities.
- Lower expectations at Baylor offer Lagway a chance for a breakout season.
Former five-star recruit DJ Lagway is poised for a significant turnaround with the Baylor Bears in the upcoming 2026 season. After an initial commitment to Florida, Lagway faced challenges, including a high interception rate during his two seasons with the Gators.
His transfer to Baylor brings him under the guidance of offensive coordinator Jake Spavital. Spavital's pass-heavy offensive scheme is anticipated to be a perfect fit for Lagway's arm talent and dual-threat abilities, mirroring the spread system he excelled in during high school.
Lagway now finds himself in a less high-pressure environment compared to playing for a powerhouse SEC program. With the Bears coming off a five-win season and facing minimal external expectations, the focus is squarely on Lagway's potential to revitalize the team and return them to winning ways.
