Summary
- Randal Grichuk traded from Arizona Diamondbacks to Kansas City Royals
- Andrew Hoffman, a 25-year-old reliever, headed to Arizona in return
- Grichuk pulled from Diamondbacks game after learning of the trade

In a late-breaking trade ahead of the MLB's trade deadline, the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to send outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Kansas City Royals. The Diamondbacks, who are looking to acquire young talent as they work to sell at the deadline, will receive right-handed reliever Andrew Hoffman in return.
Grichuk, who started in right field for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, was pulled from the game after the news of the trade broke. He has slashed .243/.280/.462 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs this season in Arizona, after signing with the team before the 2024 campaign.
Hoffman, a 25-year-old pitcher, made his MLB debut this season and has appeared in three games for the Royals in a relief role. He has a 2.25 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched at the Triple-A level this year.
The Diamondbacks continue to be active in the trade market, having recently dealt first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners. Third baseman Eugenio Suárez remains one of the best bats available as the deadline approaches.
