Detroit Prospect McGonigle Dazzles with Power and Speed

According to reports, Detroit Tigers infielder Kevin McGonigle, 21, is a top prospect who is likely to make his MLB debut during the 2026 season. Despite failing to win MVP honors in the 2025 Arizona Fall League's All-Star game on November 9, McGonigle has clearly impressed with his performance.

After promising stints at three minor league levels this past summer, McGonigle hit an impressive .362/.500/.710 with 19 home runs and 10 stolen bases across 19 regular season AFL games. While the AFL is known as a hitter's league, McGonigle's production was still noteworthy.

In the All-Star game, McGonigle homered, drew a walk, and showcased his speed by sprinting from home to second base and scoring on a ground ball. He also hit several hard-hit balls, including a 118 mph rocket down the right field line and a 109 mph line drive. Though he didn't win MVP, McGonigle's all-around skills were on full display.

Meanwhile, the league's Home Run Derby the night prior saw Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Tony Blanco Jr. emerge victorious. The hulking 6'7", 245 lb first baseman launched a 122.9 mph home run, the hardest-hit ball in the Statcast era. However, Blanco has struggled with contact, hitting just .250 with 2 home runs in 13 AFL games.
