- Vollering risked her lead to outmaneuver rival Anna van der Breggen.
Demi Vollering has won her first Giro d'Italia, crowning a remarkable performance on Sunday. The Dutch cyclist achieved a historic milestone by becoming only the second woman to win all three Grand Tours in her career. Her victory was secured through a masterful tactical play on the final stage.
Vollering intentionally allowed Antonia Niedermaier to break away, a bold move designed to prompt Anna van der Breggen into a chase. This gamble paid off as Vollering then launched her own decisive attack on a climb, successfully dropping Van der Breggen.
The FDJ-Suez rider continued to reel in the breakaway group, ultimately finishing just three seconds behind the stage winner, Elisa Longo Borghini. This strategic brilliance secured her overall lead and the coveted Giro d'Italia crown.
This triumph adds to Vollering's impressive Grand Tour record, which includes the Tour de France Femmes title from 2023 and consecutive La Vuelta Femenina wins in 2024 and 2025. Her victory on Sunday signifies her dominance in women's cycling.
