- A potential Kawhi Leonard trade could open up space for DeRozan.
DeMar DeRozan has ignited significant fan interest in a potential return to the Toronto Raptors through a nostalgic Instagram post. The video, shared recently, featured a clip from the movie "Bad Boys" and was captioned as a memory of rides with former teammate Kyle Lowry. Lowry himself recently retired with the Raptors, concluding a 20-year career.
The Raptors are currently navigating a complex offseason, with limited resources and a strong desire to avoid exceeding salary cap limitations. They possess only one open roster spot, making the addition of DeRozan a challenging prospect without further roster adjustments.
Furthermore, the team's plans are complicated by an ongoing investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers regarding alleged salary cap circumvention. Should a trade involving Kawhi Leonard be finalized following this investigation, it could potentially free up an additional roster spot. This might then allow the Raptors to pursue signing DeRozan as their 14th player.
However, other NBA teams, including the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, and Cleveland Cavaliers, are also looking to fill their rosters and could sign DeRozan before the Raptors have the opportunity to make an offer.
