Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has shared his excitement following the fitting of new prosthetic toes for his left foot. This advancement allows him to feel 'ten toes down' once more, marking a significant step in his recovery and well-being.
Sanders underwent the amputation of two toes in September 2021, a consequence of life-threatening blood clots that arose after a procedure to address a dislocated toe. Doctors had initially considered a more extensive amputation, but ultimately only the big toe and the adjacent toe on his left foot were removed.
The custom silicone prosthetics are engineered to enhance his foot's support, improve his balance, and correct alignment. These enhancements are crucial for Sanders, enabling him to bear weight more comfortably, a long-term goal following his surgery.
Previously, Sanders had humorously noted that the prosthetics would allow him to better enjoy his vast sneaker collection. As a lifelong enthusiast of footwear, he anticipates wearing his favorite shoes with renewed comfort.
