Magic's Beloved Voice Retires After 37 Seasons

David Steele, the longtime play-by-play announcer for the Orlando Magic, has officially retired from broadcasting. His distinguished career spanned 37 seasons with the team, including 28 years as the television voice and nine years on the radio. Steele expressed gratitude for his time with the Magic, stating it was an honor to represent the franchise. He announced his decision on Tuesday, looking forward to spending more time with his family.

Taking over the microphone will be Dante Marchitelli, who has been with the Magic for 28 seasons. Marchitelli has gained experience by filling in for Steele on play-by-play duties for the past three seasons. He previously served as a studio host and sideline reporter. Former Magic player Jeff Turner is expected to continue in his role as the team's television analyst.

Steele's contributions to Magic basketball were widely recognized. He was named Florida Sportscaster of the Year twice, in 2009 and 2021. In 2019, he was honored with induction into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame. The team's chairman, Dan DeVos, commended Steele's professionalism and enduring impact on the franchise's history.
