Dash Daniels, a highly-rated NBL Next Star, has officially joined the South East Melbourne Phoenix, a move that sees him switch to a direct rival of his former team, Melbourne United. This transition occurred mere days after his departure from United.
Phoenix head coach Josh King expressed significant enthusiasm for the signing, highlighting Daniels' strong defensive capabilities and notable maturity for his young age. King believes Daniels' skills align perfectly with the team's aggressive, high-pressure, and fast-paced system.
Daniels himself cited the Phoenix's playing style and the chance to develop under King's guidance as key factors in his decision. He is particularly drawn to the team's emphasis on defense and full-court pressure.
The South East Melbourne General Manager of Basketball Operations, Simon Mitchell, also shared the excitement, emphasizing Daniels' high potential and capacity to play multiple positions. The club is committed to supporting his development and ultimate aspiration of reaching the NBA draft.
As a Next Star, Daniels does not count towards the club's primary roster spots, offering the Phoenix valuable flexibility as they assemble their squad for the upcoming NBL27 season.
